Our DMN training shows you not only how to create model-based decision requirements, but fully executable DMN services that solve real-world project needs.  It is aimed at what Microsoft calls software “makers” – technically inclined business users, business analysts and architects, and developers as well – who want to learn a Low-Code approach based entirely on standards.  If you can create reasonably complex Excel spreadsheets using the Formulas ribbon, you qualify as a “maker”.  We assume no prior knowledge of programming or decision management techniques.  We start slowly, but by the end you will be a fully qualified DMN professional.

The course is hands-on, using the Trisotech Decision Modeler, part of Trisotech’s Digital Enterprise Suite.  Students use the tool to create examples and perform exercises in which they model a given scenario, after which I discuss my solution.  Hands-on is the only way to learn it!

In the course we cover…

  • Logic decomposition with Decision Requirements Diagrams (DRDs)
  • Decision table hit policy and Decision Table Analysis
  • Low-Code logic design using standard tabular formats called boxed expressions
  • User-defined functions called Business Knowledge Models (BKMs)
  • FEEL, a powerful but business-friendly expression language for the formulas in the table cells
    • Variables and datatypes
    • Literal expressions with string and number functions
    • Calendar arithmetic
    • Lists and tables
    • Input data validation
  • Contexts, a boxed expression type that simplifies FEEL expressions
  • Testing the logic by executing in the tool
  • Definition and publishing of decision services for execution by external clients

Our DMN training shows you how to use the tool to model business decision logic end-to-end… and test the outcome using input data values you provide.  The course content had a major update in March, 2022, to take advantage of new features of the Trisotech platform (v11) and the DMN standard (v1.4), as well as the needs of Low-Code Business Automation.  Trisotech BPMN borrows boxed expressions and FEEL from DMN to make executable process design Low-Code as well, and this DMN training is effectively a prerequisite for that.  The new course combines what was formerly two courses, DMN Basics and DMN Advanced, into one.

The training is web/on-demand, meaning you can proceed on your own schedule, at your own pace.  As with our BPMN training, students have access to the tool for 60 days in order to complete the certification requirements, an online exam and a mail-in exercise that must be iteratively improved until it is perfect.  Certification is built into the training at no extra cost.  Students completing the requirements are recognized with DMN Professional certification.
